Examples of Digital Signage in Hotels
As travelers get more tech-savvy, hotels need to expand their amenities to include digital offerings that improve the guest experience. Let’s explore some examples of digital signage displays and examples in hotels and their lobbies.
The idea of hotel digital solutions is to give travelers something they can’t get on their own phones or tablets: insider information about the hotel, customized tips on restaurants and attractions, works by local artists, photos of guests at sister properties around the world, etc.
Hotels are getting even more creative in the way they’re using digital signage. In fact, they’re going beyond displaying standard information to personalize the guest experience by employing tactics such as using QR codes to direct guests to the hotel’s Facebook page or the hotel’s exclusive Pandora radio station so that they can take a piece of the hotel home with them.
So, from simple digital signage displays to interactive displays and video walls that make a strong visual statement, we’ve listed examples of digital signage in hotels, showing how they are using technology to improve the guest experience.
The World’s Tallest Architectural Video Wall
As part of its grand opening festivities, Grand Beach Hotel Surfside unveiled the world’s tallest mosaic architectural video wall.
With 20 55-inch displays placed at a 90-degree angle to one another in a herringbone pattern, the video wall has become a focal point visible from the street.
It gives the new hotel almost instant “landmark” status, helping it stand out in the model Miami architectural landscape.
In truth, standing 4 stories high, the impressive video wall gives the hotel endless possibilities for creative expression.
Saying Goodbye to the Traditional Concierge
The Hotel Indigo brand has turned the idea of the traditional concierge role into a full-scale experience through their Neighborhood Guide. They use an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to local sites and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world.
The touchscreen digital signage display offers guests an overview of each hotel’s unique neighborhood story. It includes a roundup of the local attractions and restaurants. In fact, guests can even share what they have discovered through a fun photo-sharing tool linked to Facebook.
With 55 Hotel Indigo properties worldwide, guests can explore and discover the brand’s global community through an interactive map, prompting some to plan future travel as they discover new hotels and locales around the world.
A Simple Upgrade Making a Big Difference
Days Inn Hotel in downtown Vancouver installed a 46” high resolution touch interactive display in their lobby, offering tourists and locals alike a unique interactive experience.
They’re using digital signage for hospitality to provide information on British Columbia attractions, restaurants and local street food trucks. This info can be downloaded from the screen onto a smartphone by using SMS or QR codes.
The display also acts as a live flight information display system (FIDS), showing Vancouver International Airport’s arrivals and departures.
Creating a Multimedia Environment
A Miami landmark, Intercontinental Miami’s $30M renovation included an interactive lobby with touchscreen technology and digital art walls that create a ‘new media’ art space at the hotel.
The hotel’s popular lobby features 4 large video walls, 6 LED Art Walls and 9 highly interactive smart tables. So, these showcase digital works by local artists, information about Miami-area attractions, current affairs and community events.
The video wall behind the front desk shows live camera footage of marina, bay and other areas.
Touchscreen coffee tables throughout the lobby allow guests to order cocktails, plan local outings, book dining reservations and spa appointments.
Redefining the Lobby Experience
In keeping with the sensibilities of its tech-savvy and arts-oriented clientele, SpringHill Suites is using hotel digital signage and art as a way to forge closer ties with customers as well as potential customers.
Digital signage displays and video walls in the lobby offer rotating selections of works by local artists. These galleries can be changed in the morning, afternoon and evening.
The digital gallery is not just beautiful, but smart too. The interactive, touch screen displays allow guests to access driving directions, view local weather, or find nearby restaurants.
Adding to the Overall Aesthetic of Social Spaces
Aloft Hotels brand themselves as ‘boisterous energy’ and they’re using technology, specifically video walls, to enhance this feel.
Inspired by urban design, their industrial feel radiates wit. Aloft features eye‐catching shapes, pops of color, mod furnishings, and local artists on their signature video walls.
In addition to news headlines and property information, the tickers feature promotional and branding messages, including special offers from hotel partners and news of new hotel openings.
They also have Touch & Go self-service kiosks with touch-screen technology that lets guests choose their exact room and floor, confirm rates, get keys, and even print their next flight’s boarding pass.
A Four-minute Las Vegas Hotel Check-in
Linq Hotel installed self check-in kiosks for ‘Express Services’ allowing guests to avoid long lines and check-in faster.
Guests can start their check-in online or via text message prior to arrival cutting their check-in time even further.
These kiosks can also print or e-mail a room assignment slip that includes directions to the appropriate elevator bank.
Bringing the Excitement of Outside Inside
Located right in the heart of downtown Chicago, the historic Intercontinental Hotel brought the excitement of Michigan Avenue into their beautiful lobby via an impressive 8 screen video wall.
The video wall brings the vibrancy and appeal of Michigan Avenue into the guest experience. It not only adds an element of fun for passersby, but also creates a memorable experience, from check-in to check-out.
Amenities with a WOW Factor
Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel added a video wall at the front desk, to enhance the guest welcome experience.
The video wall displays a live stream of the coast captured by a roof-mounted camera. HD videos showcasing the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach are also displayed, dramatically illustrating what there is to see and do nearby.
