Digital Signage and TVs: What’s the Difference? | Video
Although digital signage and TVs may look similar, they have very separate purposes. TVs are great for watching your favorite shows and movies, but they are limiting devices. Digital signage allows you to create and control multiple zones of content at once. The benefits of digital signage don’t stop here, let’s look into the other differences between digital signage and TVs.
Multiple Zones
TVs are limited to one zone which means viewers can only see one piece of content at a time i.e. the news channel. With digital signage, viewers can see many forms of content at once. For example, viewers can see the weather, time, picture playlists, scrolling text, and other forms of useful content on a digital signage display. Although the news is an important source of information, viewers can gain more knowledge and insight through seeing multiple zones of content at once.
Location Possibilities
Another difference between digital signage and TVs are placement possibilities. Most TVs are seen in homes or office break rooms. Digital signage can be seen in those locations as well, but it’s a more versatile device that can be seen in more commercial environments and can be sustainable outside during various weather conditions.
Operating Hours
Digital signage is built to operate 24/7–the content on the screens can be played during office hours or over the weekend for company events. On the other hand, TV is more suitable for shorter hours of use, about 5-6 hours a day. This is ideal for people who like to watch TV or movies.
