Kings Dominion
Kings Dominion, Virginia’s premier amusement park and home to the world’s longest floorless coaster, updated its Picnic Pavilion with digital signage powered by Mvix. The screens – all of which are networked and remotely controlled – display picnic reservations, directions to the picnic spaces, personalized welcome messages for picnic guests, upcoming park events, and promos for park rides and concessions.
Introduction
Located less than 30 miles north of Virginia’s capital Richmond, the 400-acre amusement park is consistently ranked among the best in the country. The park receives over 2 million visitors annually who come to enjoy over 60 rides and attractions, including 13 roller coasters, a 20-acre water park, and an annual Halloween Haunt that was nominated for the USA Today and 10Best Readers’ Choice 2017 Award for Best Theme Park Halloween Event. The amusement park also features the world’s largest PEANUTS™-themed children’s area with 20 rides, upgraded food locations, multiple event spaces, and more.
The Challenge
To increase group sales, Kings Dominion needed to upgrade their Picnic Pavilion with technology that would radically redefine the look, set the mood and fuel the environment.
The reader boards that were in place had a lot of limitations:
● they were small and couldn’t be read from far
● they were difficult to read in direct sunlight
● messages were scrolling text only with no image or video options
● changing the content wasn’t as easy as desired
● integration with the scheduling software wasn’t smooth
● they didn’t add much visual appeal and made the pavilion look outdated
